This might actually encourage puppy mills, but there never is a right answer. It will at least make people reflect. Good point. People given animals for Christmas may not have the ability to care and love the animals for many years and have not considered what long term commitment pets are.
The best present I ever received was an English Springer Spaniel puppy. I still miss him and he’s been gone for 35+ years. People are the problem thinking animals are throw away items. I did wonder if it was wise of Chris Evans to talk about picking up a dog so close to Christmas.
But I've not heard him mention it recently so perhaps he's had a rethink or is just counting down to his last radio programme for Radio 2. I guess there is no perfect method. The BBC didn't mention the woman threw stuff at him, hitting him and he retaliated.
