Excellent idea. I hope it spreads Europe-wide. If people are really serious about getting a dog, realistic about what they're taking on and aware of the responsibility and costs involved, then they'll be quite happy to wait until later in the New Year. I understand it may go either way. But what if this gives chance for the pet to have a home?



If it takes Christmas to have this opportunity, then why not? Responsible shelters tend to have a policy of not allowing adoptions over Christmas. It's probably a good idea. That said, our vets' practice once let us adopt a little stray they'd taken in. She would have been on her own over the holidays, with someone calling in to feed her and clean her cat lit, which would have been very lonely for her.



We are experienced cat people with a quiet home environment and taking her on was a joint decision. The timing meant we were able to spend plenty of time with her and things worked out well. We had more than seven very happy years with her.
