When dealing with a grieving child you should be as honest as you can be (age appropriate). My daughter was 9 when her dad passed away. Also, this is only my opinion. This is so wrong. Lying to a child in that way is harmful and destructive to his psyche and development. The sentimental claptrap spouted here is extremely misguided.
